I enjoy a good movie.
I really do..
A good movie requires a unique or interesting plot, fabolous characters, be either extremely funny, dramatical, action packed (or all of the above) and overall excellent cinematography. A good movie never fails to keep my attention and when I walk out of the movie Im still smiling and dying to talk about it.
Sadly, due to other life commitments I have been unable to watch a lot of the recent movies e.g The Incredibles, Team American, Oceans Twelve etc etc. But a request for a quiet Saturday night led us to watch Finding Neverland.
A movie based on a true story about the author of the children's classic Peter Pan, Sir James M Barrie and set in London in 1904, it is a sweet tale of J. Barrie's inspirational and magical experiences which lead him to the journey that is now Peter Pan. This is not another version of the Peter Pan story (phew!) but rather about what inspired Sir Barrie to write about things like pirates, fairies, flying and other ideas which would have possibly have had him incarcerated in the looney bin in the 1900's. Some major eye candy too with Johnny Depp as the Sir Barrie as well as the beautiful Kate Winslet and some very cute child actors. With Johnny Depp's sexy Scottish accent *grin*, a fabolous cast, a beautiful soundtrack and just an all round great plot, whats not to like?!!! Oh yeah, bring some Kleenex.....
Other good movies?
House of Flying Daggers - Lots of eye candy - Takeshi Kaneshiro (girls go yum yum), Zhang Ji Yi (boys go yum yum) and Andy Lau (we all go yum yum). Interesting plot and superb cinematography. I actually enjoyed this more than Hero.
Hero - Great fighting scenes and interesting landscaping :). Mental reminder, dont watch when sleepy......
Care Bears- The Movie - um... what can i say? It was hard to watch without feeling my I.Q lowering per second. But somewhat nostalgic....
Movies I want to watch next
Ray - looks like some quality acting from Jamie Foxx
Kinsey - interesting.....
Incredibles - loveeeee a good cartoon
Team America - sex scenes and puppets.... a must see!!! (No its not a fetish :P)
Bring out the popcorn.....

babies vs career
Two triggers:
1. A very good buddy of mine is going to propose to my very good gal buddy of mine. Its about bloody time mate!
2. Jen and Brad’s recent breakup
In the last decade, the female sex has been able to attain greater equality not only in the workplace but also at home. Thus issues such as career versus family has never been so big. On the otherside, more of the male sex have decided that they also would like to attain some equality and would like to stay at home and take care of their newborns as they feel that they are missing out on the maternal stuff we women go through. Yeah…. dirty diapers, lack of sleep, fat flabby body??. …You want it? Take it!!!!
Increasingly now women are attaining very high-powered jobs and have incredible and achievable goals that they would like to attain and thus have pushed aside having babies and getting married to achieve those goals. Not to say that they don’t want all that, but no longer are us women feeling as clucky as early and would rather achieve a great deal more before they are tied down to a life of diaper changing, dishwashing, house cleaning, soap-watching afternoons, and ‘Honey I’m home, Wheres my dinner??’ scenarios.
Men are increasingly saying that they would love to eventually have big families eg >2 kids and get married. But as always, they aren’t the ones that have to sacrifice their bodies AND their career. So, give us women a break and help us out a bit. Yes we realise that we have a biological clock ticking (although I just read that a 66 year old woman in Europe somewhere gave birth today and has subsequently become the oldest woman to conceive) and Yes we realise that as we get older, we get uglier so our physical features are also failing. But we have a chance to make ourselves feel like we are bloody awesome so why should we stop that for you men? Ok, I’m being a tad melodramatic but I wish men would stop saying ‘ I want a family big enough to make a football team’.
Poor Brad. All he wanted was a baby…Something Jen didn’t want to give apparently cos her career is taking off. It’s sad but Brad, darling, why ask Jen to stop when you obviously aren’t. And think about it. In Brad and Jen’s Hollywood, having a baby is somewhat easier considering they can hire a gazillion nannies to help. Us mere mortals just got our mums :P (Luv you mum!!!) But even so, they are only human and Jen has obviously chosen career for the moment.
For me, Im lucky. One of the many reasons I chose my profession was that it was rather flexible with my career. I am able to work part-time and still make a decent living. And later on when my kids are able to stand on their own two feet, I can go back and buy me a nice store and make lots of money :P
I am sure that most women do not think as madly as the view above and personally I would love to get married before I’m 30 and one day have kids. But in this age, both sexes have to realise that balancing career and family is more critical now than it’s ever been. Good luck! May the force be with you…..

a brand spanking new year
Happy New Year Everyone! I cannot believe it is 2005 and I am hitting the next quarter of my life. Reflecting back on last year, there were a lot of smiles, laughs, sadness, stress and plenty of alcohol. And although for some who felt the year flew past, I felt the year was, well… a year…
* shrug *
In 2004 I had my fun of spending my money fruitlessly and I learnt how to live independently for the first time without any outside financial support. After 4 years of hell, I was finally released onto the unsuspecting world to look at eyes and make life-affecting decisions on people. I have made new friends, lost contact with some friends, and made a special new friend. My liver has been tested countless times by new and nasty alcoholic cocktails while my body has been getting flabby from lack of gym action.
So when I was asked what were my new years resolutions, I was kinda stuck. Aren’t your new year resolutions things you generally keep for the first month then forget? Is that what it has become? I thought, instead of resolutions, Id rather makes plans. I’ve realised I don’t have a ‘plan’ whether it be a 1 year plan or let alone a 5-10 year plan. Some of the things my friends have planned for are financial investments, buying property, getting married and buying a car/bike/mode of transport other than train/bus. I have yet to consider any of those things. Ideally the only one of those that I can tangibly do is financial investments. Buying property in Sydney is ridiculous and would take two incomes, so maybe when I get married later than that can become tangible. Buying a car right now is also not quite tangible as it is a depreciating asset which I cannot afford with the lifestyle i enjoy now. So whats left? From the years of suffering as a poor student living off measly wages and my parents allowance, I dreamt of travelling and buying things without thinking that the opportunity cost would be me eating Maggi Mee for a month. So, what I have saved has been for holidays and buying nice clothes/shoes/bags/food/stuff. Does this make me happy? Yep! But deep down I know there is more to life than petty spending and more important things that would help build my future. So I believe that in 2005 I would like to achieve two tangible things – go on bigger holidays (Thailand, Malaysia, Japan) and have some investments .
And for the countless friends who have asked, why am I wasting all my money living in Sydney when I could be back home in Perth earning 10G more than I currently am? Well, lets just say that I am enjoying my youth here, and money is not wasted when I feel comfortable and happy :) .
